All You Need to Know About Street Light Footing

Streetlights are only a source of illumination across the streets, but it also adds to the aesthetic value of the infrastructure of the place. Hence, its construction, installation and design must be perfect. Every construction process is done based on the following few guidelines and methods; without the appropriate understanding of the processes and application, the entire process might go haywire. Similarly, the street light footing process also requires some basic pre-work. In this article, we will discuss various important aspects of that.

Things to know before installing street light footing

Adhere to the design guidelines

Firstly, one needs to be careful about the reinforcement alongside the formwork fabrication. The cutting and the bend up bars with regards to the reinforcement must be in sync with the drawings. Everything related to the reinforcement should be devoid of grease or materials which are oily.

Reinforcement must be covered properly as per the design or drawing for the entire structure. Spacers or cover blocks can be used appropriately to do the covering in the best possible manner. In this contest, the cover blocks must be tied in the right way to avoid any issues. Additionally, the floating formwork regarding the collar should mirror the original drawing without any deviation; adequate support for the anchor bolts is also required to ensure proper positioning, line, level etc.

The excavation processes

Secondly, the excavation process is a key aspect of the street light footing process. One must understand that the excavation area should be properly backfilled to avoid any mishap or instability of the structure. This is responsible for the creation of the base. But before that, the inputs of the surveyor must be considered about the size alongside the level of the foundation. Also, the excavated soil must be handled carefully to avoid the issue during the drilling process. There should not be any loose material in the drill hole. Also, the excavated materials must be disposed of in the right place to avoid any unnecessary issues.

Next comes the very important dewatering process. The groundwater must be dealt with properly while dealing with the process in higher water tablespaces. Concrete elements should be poured once the excess amount of water is properly removed. However, there would not be much issue to drill until the required level of depth is reached.

Final installation process

Fourthly, the concrete mix process plays a key role in the street light footing. Primarily, the concrete mix process must go in sync with the approved design of the consultant or the expert. The surface on which the concrete is to be put must be devoid of any kind of dust or foreign materials. As per the requirement, reinforcement-related approvals and inspection processes should be in place. Also, the ambient temperature should be 40-degree centigrade, and the temperature of the concrete should not go beyond 32-degree. In this context, the inspection related to the quality control and the casting of the concrete cube should also be completed with the approval of ITP.

Pre-work is a must

To make the street light footing process seamless, detecting the utilities which are present underground is important. Before the earthwork, electrical cable scanners, gas emission detectors, or metal detectors should be used to identify any exiting utilities underground to avoid unnecessary issues.

Finally, the grouting alongside the finishing must be done properly as well. The gap derived between the concrete-based foundation and the base plate must be grouted to the approved materials. Usage of the shutters is important as it helps in getting the shape as per the design.

Final thoughts

In short, the aforementioned steps can make the entire street light footing process convenient and stable. Any miss in the process might cause unwanted hazards.
